Nicole is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who completed her Masters in Psychotherapy at McMaster University. Nicole has experience working with adults of all ages, from their late teens all the way to their 80s and enjoys exploring the unique opportunities and challenges of each life stage with her clients.
Nicole has experience working with a variety of anxious and depressive concerns. She also has a special passion for working with caregivers of all kinds (from parents of children, to adult children and beyond) as well as those who are grieving a loss. Some might wonder what those two passions have in common, they might even seem like opposites! As Nicole sees it, what unites caregivers and grievers is that all too often, our society fails to acknowledge and properly support the additional emotional, social and logistical load that both of these groups carry through their daily lives. Nicole enjoys working with these individuals to help unpack these heavy loads in a compassionate, validating environment while helping them to build skills and practices to promote and sustain their own well-being.
She primarily works within a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework. In a nutshell, CBT focuses on how our thoughts and actions impact our emotions and looks for opportunities to shift these things in order to bring relief from our emotional challenges. Nicole also draws on techniques from other kinds of therapies (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, etc.) to meet the needs of her clients.
